STEPS TO TAKE IF YOUR CROP IS DAMAGED
.Take pictures of all the crops, whether damaged or not. You cannot take too many pictures.

.Make a claim (through your agent) and document that you made the claim. It does not cost anything to make the claim.

.Get a copy of the policy and read it, especially the provisions regarding your duties after a loss and how any payments for damages will be calculated.

.Do your own count of all the plants, including the field location, type, size and age of plants.

.Gather all the documentation related to the crop – including the information that was provided to the agent, invoices for the purchases of plants, invoices for the purchase of liners, containers, fertilizer and chemicals, and sales records.

.Provide all requested information to the adjuster(s).

.Monitor the activities of the adjusters – who came to the nursery (names), when they came to the nursery, how long they stayed, what was discussed, what the adjusters advised you to do, where the adjusters went during the course of the adjustment.

.Do not destroy any of the damaged plants until you get written authorization from the adjuster or the insurance company.

.Make sure you pay the premium when due, or get a written agreement for a payment plan. If you fail to pay the premium when due, the insurance will be denied.

.Do not sign any documents prepared by the adjuster without making sure that you understand what you are agreeing to. Read the document and understand what you sign. If you do not agree or understand what you are signing, contact your attorney.
